"BTK" Movie Review and Ending

OK, so I wasn't old enough to remember the beginning (BTK started in 1974-I was born in 1978) but I remember when they caught him, and I remember every one's astonishment when they found out who BTK really was. I think that the worst part of all is that Dennis L.Rader, the BTK Killer, was not just an ordinary citizen, but he was outstanding in his hometown reputation.

Rader was a Boy Scout leader, and eventually rose to the the position of "Church President". Now I have never heard of that position, as I am a Catholic, but I am pretty sure that it is a rare position to be honored with. (Was he Episcopalian?) None the less, he was a father, a husband, a Compliance Officer (and he pissed a lot of people off when he cited them for minor infractions), but he was very "normal" within societies terms.

Everyone that deals with Rader finds him a little weird. In fact, in the scene where he brings the little girl home, we think he is going to kill her, but he doesn't. That whole ride kept me on the edge of my seat, considering he had the other girl in the back of his van. He says to the little girl, "Being nice is a lot easier than being mean."

Kane Hodder plays the BTK character, and I must say, he did a hell of a job. Rader shows his arrogance while looking for media coverage of his actions: "How many do I have to kill before I get a name in the paper, some national attention..." He even tells the congregation at his church, "I wont let you down" after he is appointed Church President.

One scene that creeped me out was when he was strangling a girl and her face distorts and it looks like his daughter. I think that his family starts to put things together when he says that he is going camping with the boy scouts. Rader is married for 30 years and when his wife is questioned by the police, she tells them, "My husband is the most law abiding citizen you will ever meet." Isn't that a big mistake!

Rader comes to terms with his sickness: "I'm a bad man...done some very bad things", and then later, "I am not human." It's obvious that he can never stop and before he is caught he shows remorse for his family. When the cops are talking in his workshop, they some up his character: "He's just a fella' next door, just a regular guy".

The scariest detail of this true movie is that Rader truly was an outstanding citizen, a church leader, and family man. You just never know where evil is, and most often times, the true creeps are the ones we would never expect. I pray for all those family members who were affected by this monster. "May you not be the unlucky one."
