This recipe is a Southeast Asian Cambodian Khmer Desert Recipe and uses Soybeans. In Cambodia, there are 2 types of Soybeans.

  1. Red or Black Soybeans are used for making Soy Sauce and Tofu.
  2. The other kind of Soybeans are the Green and Yellow varieties which are used to make Cakes.
  • The Soybeans have to be soaked in water for several hours to soften them for easier cooking.
  • They can be found in many Major Supermarkets, Health Food Stores and Asian Specialty Stores.

This recipe also calls for the use of a Steamer which can also be found in most Asian Specialty Stores or ordered online.

Let's take a look at the Ingredients:

Hello Robin! It is definitely different especially if you don't eat a lot of Soybean products. I suggest making it with the other recipe for the Home Made Coconut Ice Cream. Although they can be enjoyed independently, they compliment each other! I always appreciate your comments! Please let me know what you think when you try this!

@anglnwu: I am not positive but I believe they are not the same. I tried to research on Wikipedia but there was no listing.

Here is a link to soybeans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soybean

This is a link to mung beans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mung_bean

I hope this helps! I will have to research a little more. Thanks for stopping by, as always!

@LuxmiH: It's really not that hard. The worst part is soaking the beans for 3 hours! Whichever way you try it, I do hope that you enjoy it! I always appreciate your comments!

Is yellow soya bean also called mung bean? Thanks for the recipe--now, we can eat this with the coconut ice-cream. Thanks.

I bet this would be soooooo good to make and then eat with the Coconut Ice Cream with Carmelized Bananas! You are finding my weak spots!

Coconut is one of my most favourite foods so I have to try this recipe out - especially having it with coconut icecream and the bananas. An awesome recipe!!

I think I will wait till I can try this one in a restaurant. It doesn't seem quite as easy as the Cvoconut ice-cream or caramelized bananas.

Sounds awesome! Ill have to give it a try for my mom. Personally I am not a fan of coconut but my mom loves it! Thank you for posting!.

Any recipe with Dark Brown Sugar and Coconut gets my vote. Matthew you should think about opening a restaurant. You'll never go out of business.

Thanks for sharing this one!
