What Is a Hub Camp? Summary of HubCamp Boston 2011
64Boston HubCamp Attendees
What is a HubCamp?
A HubCamp is like a mini-convention or seminar where experienced Hubbers share their knowledge on how to be successful on HubPages. The main purpose of attending a HubCamp is to learn how to write search engine friendly articles that make money on HubPages, and also a great opportunity to meet local Hubbers from your area. It is a really great experience for anyone who is interested in getting proficient at their craft and making some friends in the process.
The first HubCamp was in San Francisco in October 2010. Since then many HubCamps have been taking place throughout the world. Click on this link to see the schedule of upcoming HubCamps. HubCamps offer insider tips, a lot of useful information regarding making money and setting up your hubs to be productive, and the best part is that you get to meet people locally that are doing the same thing as you; trying to become successful online writers!
HubCamp Boston May 15, 2011
I recently attended a HubCamp held in Boston, Massachusetts. This is an article on this event, and HubCamps in general. We had an excellent time and we were able to meet Robin Edmondson and Simone Smith, two of HubPages most prolific staff members.
Myself (J.S.Matthew), my wife (who is not a Hubber...yet!), thranax and Carolyn2008 were the attendees; it was a small crowd and we learned a lot about creating successful articles, making money, and we had a lot of fun! We even had a "Happy Hour" following the meeting and it was very laid-back and enjoyable!

HubCamps and HubMeets: What's The Difference?
There are two types of HubCamps. Some HubCamps are hosted by HubPages Staff themselves, while other HubCamps are hosted by fellow Hubbers that have the experience and knowledge to share their skills and information with other Hubbers.
HubCamp Meetups are primarily social events that are organized by Hubbers themselves. Since cost is an issue, many of these Meetups take place in free, public places such as libraries, cafés, and pubs, or even outside in a public park. In fact, I plan on having a Meetup before we schedule the next HubCamp in my area. If a particular area is popular and well attended by local Hubbers, than you may want to create a HubClub that meets semi-regularly in that particular area. Although not necessary, it is highly recommended you join Meetup so that the organizers will know that you are attending and you can see which other Hubbers plan on going so that a general headcount can be taken.
If You Can't Attend...
For anyone who plans to be successful on HubPages, it's not necessary to go to a HubCamp, but I strongly recommend it. If you're not able to attend a HubCamp, then you should definitely watch some of the videos. These videos are hosted by Paul Edmondson, the CEO and co-founder of HubPages at the first HubCamp in San Francisco.
HubCamps and Meetups are a great opportunity to meet local Hubbers, share your experiences, learn new information relevant to successful Hubbing, and are a really fun time. I look forward to meeting more of the staff in the future and other Hubbers alike. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll be able to travel around the world and host some wonderful meetings. Either way, I am always looking forward to moving up within the HubPages community, meeting fellow Hubbers, and making money online doing something that I love!

Sounds like a great thing to do....glad you had fun and learned lots of information....voted up and useful
Right on! Congratulations for being recognized in the writing community. I am going to check out to see if one is in my area! I think it is a great idea for those, like me who take their writing seriously. I voted up! Bravo! On your success!
PS. I noticed there is not one available in my area. I live in Kentucky. (frowns) I was born and raised most of my life in Pennsylvania. And there appears not to be one available there either. (sighs). Great info!~
Sounds really interesting and looks like a lot of fun actually!
Glad you had a good time, voted up & useful! :)
Thanks for the great Hub, Matthew! It was great meeting you, your wife, and the other HubCamp Hubbers!
If there's not a HubCamp in your area, you can always schedule a HubMeet, which is Hubber-led, in your area. HubMeets can be purely social with no real agenda except to meet fellow Hubbers. Here's the link to all the HubMeet communities and to start one: http://www.meetup.com/hubpages/
We will also be having a World Wide Meetup Day in August for HubPages' 5th birthday; so stay tuned!
This is good, but unfortunatly I'm in Egypt :)
Hi JSM, great hub and really fascintating read. Many thanks for sharing your experience, very inspiring.
J.S.Matthew, thank you so much for coming to HubCamp Boston! It was so great to meet you and your lovely wife in person. And thanks also for creating this Hub on the program!
Thanks, maybe I can find some people right here, never thought of that.
Great article. I'm glad I went to Boston Hub Camp. I am still looking at all the notes I took and implementing them. Hopefully more people will attend next year
nice information to have. this is great. many of us that work online never have the opportunity to meet and work with each other offline. thanks for a great hub
Thanks for the information. I'll see if I can get together with all of the hubbers in Thailand. It would be cool to have a world-wide convention some day in the future perhaps out of the U.S.
I love this hub and it has also opened my eyes to hubcamp. I'm in London and there is going to be one very near where I live. I'm really looking forward to it. Cant wait to meet Simone. She'll be coming apparently! Voted UP

Take care
Eiddwen.
Just checking back to see what you have been up to and you have this neat post. Thanks much for sharing the info and your experience.
This is very cool. Thanks for explaining the difference between Hub Camps and Hub Meets and giving a first hand account of what attending a Hub Camp entails.
No Way! There is a hubcamp? Wow! I remember attending Podcamp Boston when I was a podcaster.
Is there one in New York coming up? Anyone know? Who wants to help organize one?
Neat concept. Shows that Hubpages takes their authors seriously, and is willing to cultivate a genuine relationship with us.
J.S.Matthew,I think you were fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a HubCamp. I wished someone could organize one in St. Paul, Mn, where I live. Til then, I guess I'll watch the video. I'm glad you made this hub for everyone to read.
What a helpful hub, I'm very glad I read it and plan on attending a hubcamp if there is one in my area (Colorado). Thank you and voted up.
OK, great stuff JS and thanks for wanting to follow me. I'm learning a lot from reading some of your hubs. For me being an newbie and being old guy (hahaha)that is saying a lot. Since you are ever knowledgeable I was wondering if HubCamps vere come to beautiful Southern Ca.? I love to go to functions to learn and meet new people and have fun (don't you). Well keep up the good work. And love to get your opinion on my hub,if you got the change.

Thanks so much for this one, J.S.
These HubCamps sound like a lot of fun!
I'm going to be watching the videos so I can pick up some new tips. Extremely useful information here.
HubCamp seems a lot like a writer's conference, and I have found those to be most benficial to the craft of writing. Most importantly, it helps writers get out of their creative zone and think about marketing--something that is a must to make an income. Some moderately talented writers (fill in the name you are thinking of here)make a living as writers simply because they are able to excel at the marketing end.
Thank you for sharing. Hope HubCamp grows!
Great...I have been using hub pages from quite a good time but did not know about this. I would love to attend one camp for sure...!!
I almost fell off my seat to here there was a HubMeet in Boston.I am interested in the next HubMeet. You did a wonderful job getting together and having a good time. You have bought more fun to the HubPages.I am glued to this page for awhile don't mind me if I enjoy the feeling for a little longer.Have a great day and talk real soon or sooner if you get this post.
Though I have heard frequently about Hubcamp I did not actually know about it. Thanks for this brilliantly written hub.
