Why Do I Keep Seeing "Thanks for SHARING" in Many Great Comments On Hubs Lately?

Have You Noticed This "SHARING" Phenomenon?
You may have recently noticed the phrase: "Thanks for SHARING" lately in Hubber's Comments lately. I am referring to the all-caps in the word SHARING. What is that all about?
Well, the idea came from Brett.Tesol in the recent Hub: "Do You Like to Share? Let's Help Everyone Get More Readers!"
Brett's Hub started off as a great idea that seems to be going viral on HubPages.
So what is this all about? Well, if you know Brett, than you will know that Brett likes to share Hubs. Whether in the Hub Feed, on Facebook or Twitter, Brett likes to share!
See, Brett understands that when you share other people's work, they just might share yours. And if you read Brett's Hub, you will get a very simple message: Pay It Forward!
- Select a few low score or outdated Hubs (or new Hubs) from people you follow.
- Comment on those Hubs. Be sure to leave insightful comments!
- SHARE the Hubs on your Social Media Network!
That is the first part of Brett's ingenious strategy. The next part illustrates how to let those followers know that you shared their article. How can we do that? Well, as Brett suggests, we should add to the bottom of our comment, the phrase:
"Thanks for SHARING!"
When the Hub author sees this, they will know that this article has been shared by the commentor and to keep it going, the author will in turn do the same for the commentor. He or she will go to a Hub of the person who left a comment and leave a comment on one or two of their Hubs, and will leave the same message at the bottom of the comment once they have SHARED in their own network.

Thank you JSMatthew for expanding on Brett's hub. This is something I started doing when I figured out the share button. I started it when I read older hubs that the hubbers had not received any comments. I love it and hope it has helped traffic for some of those writings. THANKS FOR SHARING

Hello mljdgulley354! I too have been doing this since the Share buttons came about. It's a wonderful thing! Since Brett introduced the idea, I have seen an increase in traffic and I think it will work as long as people keep it going. SHARING is the only way to get new traffic from "old" sources. Caring and SHARING is something we as a business have been doing including other hubbers hubs which somehow adds to a message we want to get out. We couldn't hit the share it everywhere button because some of the places we share would ban us if we shared hubs there.

I think We are ALL working on sharing. It is hard because it takes from our own writing time. We all have limited time that we can spend reading and writing, and much of the time goes to responding to comments and writing new Hubs. Brett has reminded us that Now Is The Time To SHARE!

Be sure to support Hubbers when you really enjoy reading and learning from their articles, otherwise, you have wasted the author's time and your own. (I am not referring to you personally; this is a rhetorical comment!)
I wasted a lot of time trying to get followers and trying to be number one. No one can be number one; we all follow each other and sometimes we teach others something, many times others teach us. In most cases, what others show us is a refresher of something we knew or never fully understood.

Hello wheelinallover! Unfortunately, we can't "share all" but that may be a good thing. I think if we focus on where and what we want to share we can really help develop effective relationships and marketing. It is definitely a process in learning and we make mistakes that we learn from. This is also good for search engine traffic, as Google will see more people visiting and rate that as a popular/good place to send searchers ... at least I have noticed an increase.

Hey Brett! Yes, traffic is doing well for a new Hub. You are right, the more we share the better it is for everyone. I have now made it a habit that every Hub I leave a comment on I also share with followers, share on FB and Twitter and even sometimes Digg the articles as well. It has become my standard practice. It is not easy to reply to all comments and I do it on most of my Hubs but not all. I have found that commenting on each post retains friendships and encourages consistent reading of new Hubs. It really is all about the community! I am sure you will be able to go back in your Hub and share with all that commented. Thanks for coming back. I hope the momentum doesn't fade!

Thanks for this hub article. I never considered this idea until you pointed it out and suggested the link for further reading. I went to the other hub and the information to be very thought prevoking and well worth considering as I use the Hub Hopper to review new hubs.

What I don't like about the "Thanks for sharing", comment game is, it doesn't have originality, & is more generic than being sincere to tell you the truth.
I think people just want an easy way out of having to read peoples hubs, and simply wanna breeze on by, judging by the lack in insightful comments I receive daily, I feel this is the hidden purpose & agenda behind the whole simply leaving a Thanks for sharing comment everywhere.
Now if it is grouped with an insightful comment than I see it as being OK, but don't just write THANKS FOR SHARING and think it is enough for the hubpages system to accept, because its always watching our every move here.
Good luck on that game whom ever started it here, but I'll keep reading peoples hubs in their full entirety, no matter how long they appear to be. I'm here to truly share with folks, not to play a little comment game, but its to each ones own I guess. Oh by the way Thanks for sharing this continuation to the already ridiculous original thanks for sharing hub.
Inspiration is one thing, but trickery well, that's for kids like they use to tell that silly rabbit said in the Trix cereal commercial.
See a comment is only a true comment to me if people meant it, I like this hub but I just don;t like if people aren't being genuine, and I'm sure hubpages frowns upon that part as well. Being insightful while sharing is important whether it be a comment, a posting, a hub, a forum discussion.
Brett was cool to create such a sharing campaign, but it seems people are becoming more in-genuine in a race to get high stats. That's my fear, that the greatness in authors is going to be passed by, and its not cool, at least that part.
I worked very hard to get where I'm at on the web, and in hubpages, and for people to just leave such a weak comment for the fact of numbers makes me feel cheated, this sharing idea is cool, but needs to be also shown differently, not everyone is here to use good integrity, sharing should be with true intentions & true integrity.
That's what we all deserve as authors of creative works, and its the least we could receive. This is why the hubpages system is built to weed out the in-genuine folks, and praise the genuine ones.

@CloudExplorer: Hello! I can understand your concern with this but I assure you, if you look at the comments where I "SHARE" you will see that I actually read the article and leave relevant comments. I am not trying to Spam people and I only read and SHARE articles that I enjoy and think my friends and networks will enjoy as well. Just ask any of my followers.
Everyone has different reasons for being on HubPages. When I joined 2 1/2 years ago, I did it solely to make money after being laid off from a job. What I learned is, you don't make money fast and you need to make connections to get traffic. The best way to make connections is through reading other's Hubs and commenting. SHARING is the next step after that. I want to share people's work that I think can help or educate other people.
I get decent traffic to my Hubs and I am happy with the feedback I receive from my followers and even those who don't follow me but stop by because they were interested in the title, and enjoyed reading the article enough that they were willing to leave a comment.
I totally agree with you that misuse of sharing can become "spammy" and I make every effort to leave an insightful comment. So please don't think that I am randomly commenting on anyone's Hubs. I read the article, leave a comment and then share it with my social networks. Isn't that what networking is???
So if I read one of your Hubs (in full) and left a relevant comment, you wouldn't want me to share it with my networks because this is a "game"? Like I said, everyone is on HubPages for different reasons. I, myself, am here to publish quality material that readers can connect with, make some friends, and build my network which helps increase my earnings.

@CloudExplorer: Yes, I agree that generic comments can be disheartening. To look at it in a positive light, not every comment is going to be long and insightful. I appreciate that people at least take the time to say that they read and enjoyed the article. Maybe they are short on time? Who knows? Traffic is traffic and that is what makes money. So if someone stops by and says 3 words, well, thanks for the traffic!
Some people may take this idea an not use it to full capacity. Their reputations will be destroyed as no one will take them seriously if they leave 3 word comments on hundreds of Hubs.

Thanks. I was joking and you know it. I'll never catch up, but I am gaining speed. I am involved with other efforts, and my stint here has really opened my eyes. I may never be a great hubber, but HubPages has helped me learn how it all works. It will enhance my web presence in time. Who knows, I might even pocket a little jingle on the way.

I thought you were joking WD, but I have been a little paranoid lately lol! Just take your time. I didn't even start doing anything at all on HubPages for over a year. I wrote a few Hubs and disappeared because I wasn't making money...then I discovered the community and the social aspect of HubPages, and now I can't stop! Then Panda happened, and I had to start all over again! But I am making some dough and happy because I make more each month. It's not a ton yet, but enough that people raise an eyebrow when I tell them that I make it as passive income. Work hard now, reap the benefits over the long run.

Sharing has been working for both the corporation and our hubs in a big way. Page ranking for hubs has increased with the added back links. The comments and retweeting on social sites seem to be helping also.
One of the factors search engine "bots" look at is reputation. Social sharing with good comments on the social sites help increase it. This is just one of the benefits of social sharing.
Hub pages has long understood how to increase each authors reputation in house, and with all the social sharing which is happening now it will increase the value of the whole site once again.
Now that we are all on sub domains more of the back linking and reputation of our work fall to us the users.
Helping each other increase our subdomains value is something we should all be taking seriously.

@wheelinallover: Hello! It's great to hear that the stats for HubPages as a whole are increasing due to the SHARING as well as the individual Hub articles themselves. Yes, search engine bots do look for popularity and it seems that the longer the article is with different content types (video, original photos, etc.) the better it does in the ranking. Comments definitely help if they are longer than a few words.
I also think that the switch to sub domains was a good one and I have seen an increase in my traffic since they switched over. It also helps that we are no longer recognized as one domain so that we are not compared to the spammers and low quality publishers; we stand on our own.
We should all help each other out by sharing as you have mentioned. I think the issue is getting people to understand how to share, get signed up (a lot of people don't like Facebook) and get them to do it. I never used to share as frequently as I do now but I have seen a huge difference and increase of organic traffic the more I do SHARE. I figured you'd come back and I am glad you did! I appreciate you re-sharing this with your corporate account. I always appreciate your comments! Thanks again!

I was sharing the same link with a bunch of people very frequently and my score dropped significantly. I figured out what I was doing wrong and ever since I fixed it, things have been improving! I joined Hubpages 2 years ago with a lot of enthusiasm. Once inside, I learned that I had come to the right place to express my ideas as well as to get to know a lot of lovely people.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to continue hubbing with the same fervor with which I had joined because of my freelancing activities that was providing me a solid monthly income.
All along, I had been missing HP, but couldn't do anything about it.Recently, with a lot of changes happening on HP, I decided that I must continue writing here at least for the fun of it if not for the money. So I made a second beginning if I may say so and started reading more and commenting. I chanced upon this wonderful hub of yours and learned quite a few things about Hubpages.
Thanks for SHARING!! I like this. I read Brett's hub and realized what a wonderful idea it is to share the others' hubs with your own followers. Great idea!

I only recently noticed the 'share' option in hubs, but, ever since, I have been sharing hubs that I find enjoyable, or interesting, with Hub followers and with Twitter ~ sometimes Facebook, too.
But I don't ask to be shared and I don't mention my 'votes up' or my 'shares' in the comments section.
