What Are Angels: What Do Catholics Believe? Helpers In God's Plan

Angels
Angels are found throughout the Bible in both the New and Old Testaments. Many of the main subjects in the Bible were visited by angels and given a message directly from God.
Perhaps the greatest example of an Angel visiting someone to bring good news was when the angel Gabriel came to Mary and told her that she would be with child and would give birth to Jesus: “God sent the Angel Gabriel…to a virgin named Mary… do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son…” (Luke 1:26-31).
So what are Angels and what does the Catholic Church teach on this subject? First of all believing in the existence of angels is a truth of faith. Angels are spiritual beings whereas humans are physical beings. Angels are considered to be servants and messengers of God. They have intelligence and will and they are considered to be personal and immortal creatures more perfect than humans.
Proof of Angels In The Bible
In essence the Angels belong to Christ. "When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him…" (Matt 25:31). As evidence in the Bible shows, Angels have been present since the time of creation. Angels are a necessity in God's plan as they have often intervened; they protected Lot, saved Hagar and her child, stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son, announced births and assisted the prophets, to name just a few examples of their influence in the Bible.
Catholics believe Angels will be present with Christ when he returns. They will serve as ushers guiding the faithful into the New Kingdom. Catholics believe in Angels and we also believe that we will be with them in Heaven, with Jesus. It is very encouraging to know that God has these special creatures to help us. I wonder if my grandmother became an angel? I would like to think that she is up there looking down on me as I write this!

Very interesting. Thanks for refreshing my memory.
There are many 'earth' angels too!
Again J.S., nicely done. Great, easily readable information. Not too long or short. I'm enjoying your hubs!

I love angels. My sister told me that when I was little she saw an angel standing by my bedside. She described the brightness that surrounded this being in as best as she could. I agree with you J.S, angels are ever present with us, prompting us, intervening for us and protecting us from unforeseen dangers. And yes, definitely be careful how you treat strangers because they could be angels. Really enjoyed reading this. Need to catch up on the others in this series. Good job. Awesome read.
Beautiful read.I believe they are all around us. My life has been awhat you might call "very lucky" and I believe I have been carried and looked out for a lot over the years.
Voted up and beautiful! Funny enough, I think I sensed an angel in the room with me yesterday in my office building. I know that sounds crazy, but I could've sworn there was someone there and it felt comfortable and safe. Angels are a part of many other religions too and with good reason! Thanks for a resourceful hub.
I had no words to describe the beauty of this hub all i would say is awesome and well knitted hub
Well written .Really awesome i enjoyed very much. Thanks for sharing.Voted up and very useful
Very interesting Hub. I too believe in angels. I know we each have angels assigned to us to care for us and ready to do the bidding of God's Word. When we speak the Word of God over our lives the angels jump to action and carry out that Word. It's amazing. I feel very comforted knowing that they go with me everywhere I go.
I think you have a definite talent for explaining the teachings of the Catholic church. Someone suggested you write a book. This is possible. And this is not spam or affilliate nonsense. Check out smashwords -- you can get a book and ISBN for free. You have the gift of making things easy to understand.Voted up.
I was raised Catholic. Although I have strayed a bit I still believe in the fundamentals.
The one thing I have always loved about the Catholic faith is the belief in angels. To this day I believe there is something that helps guide my actions and helps protect me.
What a beautiful post.

As a life-long Roman Catholic, who is married to a Jewish man, I spend a lot of time explaining my belief's to people, and I have to agree with seanorjohn when I say that you definitely have a gift for explaining the teachings of the church...Great Job!
First off, being a life-long Catholic it is so nice to see something positive written about Catholics. I truly believe there are angles. You did a great job in writing about the teachings of the church. I thank you for that! I voted up, useful and interesting...thanks again
Vote up beautiful. As a catholic, I believe in angels as well. My guardian angel is archangel michael. I pray to him every night.

This is what I believe...
The God and Angeles are within our own mind. Our Deep mind is always helping us to resolve our critical problems.
I believe angels do exist. When my son was still learning to walk, I left him sleeping on our bed. It was located in one of the rooms at the 2nd floor of the house where we were staying. I was chatting with my sister-in-law when, suddenly, there was a voice telling me to go and take a look at the stairs. I don't know where that kind of very soft voice came. I ran to the foot of the stairs and there was my baby! He was at the edge of the stairs! Thanks to that mysterious voice, I came on time to save him from falling. You can say that it may just be a mother's intuition but it was really a voice which I heard, a kind of whisper. In retrospect, I know it was his guardian angel who saved him.
I've enjoyed your series of articles on Catholicism. They're really clearly written and helpful both to Catholics who need a refresher course on their faith and other people who are curious about the religion.
As catholic we do believe in angels and God. When I was a very small boy i use to climb tree and it was one of my best hobby. one day as i climbed a mango tree with lots of ripe fruits, suddenly my hand grabs a dry branch and i lost my balance, without knowing my hand suddenly like being pull up and put to the strong branch and i can pull my self up. Sitting up on the tree i realized it is impossible to grab another branch while falling. Looking down, i know i will broke my bones or even a very serious injury. At that time I do not know what it is but after years thinking about it , i believe it is my guardian angel that save me.
I'm sure your grandmother has helped bring to words to your fingers to type in a very special way.
I have PROOF angels are real. I took pictures. Please read my ONLY hub and tell me what you think. Tell me what this light being might be. Here is your proof.
